🛫 Departure

Turn off the A/C and all lights.

Ensure that the oven and stove tops are off.

Ensure that the projector and PS5 are completely off.

Ensure all windows and doors are closed.

Take all perishable food with you.

Empty all bins and take the trash to the bins in the courtyard.

Clean and put away the dishes.

Launder the sheets and towels and make the beds.

🔑 Key & Building Access

Front Street Door: Long, round-back "CISA" key (insert with teeth up and turn clockwise).

Living Room Door: At the top of the stairs, open the door on the left (unlocked), and follow the veranda to the living room door. The green shutter door is also unlocked. The small round-back key opens the door to the living room.

Kitchen Door: Long rectangular key with a red H symbol on the bow. Inserts into the kitchen door (opposite the veranda door) horizontally, turn clockwise to open.

Once you enter the building, all of the buttons that have a little dot of light on them will illuminate the stairwell.

All doors lock automatically when closed.

Please return the keys to Dashiell unless otherwise instructed.

❄️ Climate

Please turn the a/c off when leaving the apartment.

The upstairs bedroom a/c should only be needed when in use (the small room cools fast).

Please keep windows closed during summer when the a/c is running.

Use the floor fan to direct cool air from the living room into the sleeping alcove.

🍽️ Kitchen & Appliances

Equipped with induction cooktop, compact dishwasher, small oven.

Plates, bowls, and glasses are in the cabinet above the sink. Silverware is in the cabinet to the left of the refrigerator.

Please throw out all perishable food when you depart.

🧺 Laundry

1. Add clothes to the washer (if the laundry fills the cylinder, it’s full; don’t stuff it.)
2. Push down the lower metal flap (with the plastic latch).
3. Push down the upper metal flap and lock it into the lower flap.
4. When the lid is upright, it shows three openings. Pour detergent (half a cap full) into the opening on the right.
5. Close the lid. Turn the dial to the left past zero. Then turn the dial to the right to the desired setting. The first number is temperature in degrees, the second number is cycle length.
6. Hold the blinking “Avvio” button for two seconds to start the machine.
7. When the load is done, lift the lid and open the metal cylinder using the plastic latch.
8. Hang the laundry in the veranda or on the terrace to dry.

The cotone (cotton) setting runs at 60°C and is only recommended for sheets and towels.

There are two laundromats less than a block from the apartment. Their machines do not require detergent.

🛁 Hot Water

If the hot water isn’t working, the most likely culprit is the gas apparatus, which can be found in the veranda against the kitchen wall.

If the pressure dial indicates that it is lower than 1, gently unscrew the cap next to it, which should cause the pressure gauge to rise. Once the pressure sits between 1 and 2, screw the cap back to its off position. Then try the hot water again.

If it still doesn’t work, call Dash.

♻️ Waste & Recycling

Separated collection per Rome regulations:

• Organic (Umido): Brown bin
• Paper & Cardboard: Blue bag
• Plastic & Metal: Yellow bin
• Glass: Green street bin (Piazza della Quercia)

Leave bagged trash around the corner on Vicolo delle Grotte next to the flamingo graffiti. Monday - Paper, Tuesday - Plastic, Wednesday - Mixed, Thursday - Paper, Friday - Plastic

In the late afternoon, there are assorted bins at Campo, just in front of the Drunken Ship pub, for disposal of all types of waste including glass bottles and metal cans.

🏛️ Heritage & Ramón Gaya

This residence was the creative home and studio of Spanish master painter Ramón Gaya during his prolific Roman period. Please treat the historic architectural details with utmost care.

📽️ Projector

Please do not move the projector or media console. The apartment does not have Internet yet. The PS5 has a number of games installed, and more on disk in the righthand media cabinet.

Turning The Projector Off: Hold the power button down for two seconds and then select shutdown. If you just click the power button once it goes into sleep mode and the “formovie” light stays illuminated.

👹 Mischief

Do not climb onto the roof from the terrace or from the living room window.

Do not slam the front door or the apartment doors.

Do not have more than four people on the terrace at one time.

Do not be loud on the terrace.

Keep the projector volume below 25.

Please use sheets when sleeping on the sofa bed.

🚌 Public Transportation

Bus: Buy paper bus tickets. You have to validate your paper ticket in the machine on the bus or pay by card. Not all cards work with the tap to pay system. They check for validated tickets on the bus and will fine you.

Train: Validate your train ticket by using the validation machine at the station before boarding the train.

🌇 Terrace

The terrace light and awning are controlled by the same light switch. Switching the terrace light off and on again changes its brightness setting.

Whoever sits next to the terrace faucet needs to look out to make sure they don’t accidentally injure themselves on the faucet.

🍝 Culture

Don’t cut your pasta.

Don’t talk loudly.

Don’t mix pasta sauces.

Don't order cappuccino past noon.

Don’t go to fancy places underdressed.

Stay hydrated.

🚩 Tours

The Caravaggio walking tour is excellent.

Skip the Vatican organized tour. They miss many parts of the museum and waste a lot of time explaining stuff you’ll already know (Trojan horse, head of Medusa).

Palazzo Farnese tour is a must if you can find availability.

🧀 Buying Cheese

An “etto” is 100 grams (it costs a tenth of whatever the stated price per kilo is), and is enough for 4+ people to get a decent sample of it.

If you ask for a "piatto degustazione" they will slice the meats and cheeses up for you and package them together.

You can explain that you want 10 or 20 euros worth of cheese overall and they can figure out the right portions to give you.
